Maverick Media sells area radio stations

Maverick Media news

LIMA — Maverick Media of Lima LLC has announced the sale of its five local radio stations to Childers Media Group LLC (pending FCC approval). CMG LLC is led by its president, Matt Childers.  Maverick Media purchased the five radio stations, which include 92.1 The Frog (WFGF), 93.1 The Fan (WWSR), 107.1 (WDOH in Delphos), 104.9 The Eagle (WEGE) and 940 WCIT, in 2003.

“Maverick Media is proud of its partnership and community service with Lima and west central Ohio,” said Gary Rozynek, president and CEO of Maverick Media, headquartered in Westport, Conn. “We have embraced the community and have been proud to play such a significant role in the daily lives of the community through informative and entertaining radio stations.

“Maverick Media has supported many events and countless charities in the area at large and I am confident that Matt and his team will continue to engage the entire community with compelling radio and the same level of service,” Rozynek added.

“Matt has been a terrific leader of our Radio Group and has been an active ambassador for the Lima community,” the Maverick Media president went on to say. “West central Ohio will certainly benefit even more by having true local ownership. Childers Media Group will be the only media company in the metro area that is locally owned and operated.”

Childers, 46, is the market manager for Maverick Media of Lima and joined the company in 2004.  He has been in the radio/media business in west central Ohio for the past 15 years.

Childers has built radio organizations that develop and distribute original programming with compelling on-air presence and a heavy emphasis on local news, entertainment, promotional events, and concerts, coupled with a focus on listener engagement and local high school, collegiate, and professional sports.

Childers has also built sales organizations that strive to be its customers best marketing partner, all the while instilling the spirit of winning teamwork within the organization.

“I am honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to continue the great example that Gary Rozynek and Maverick Media have provided in operating our radio stations,” Childers said. “We have an incredible team and a staff that is dedicated to this community. We will continue to serve our community in the most informative, entertaining, professional and charitable way.”
