Rotary gives dictionaries to students

Rotary Club information

The Van Wert Rotary Club recently purchased and presented dictionaries to every third grade student at Van Wert Elementary. This is the second year for this project, in which the club raises funds to purchase a student dictionary for every third grader in Van Wert County.

“The reason Van Wert Rotary Club promotes the dictionary project to this age is because research has shown children learn to read up to the third grade and after this grade level, children read to learn,” said Rotary Past President Donna Grimm.

The monies to purchase the dictionaries this year came from both local Rotary Club members and the Van Wert Rotary Foundation.

Students and teachers alike were excited to receive this gift. Presenting the dictionaries on behalf of the Van Wert Rotary Club were Donna Grimm, Gloria Kimmey, Deb Russell, and Adam Ries.

In January, dictionaries will be given to the remaining third grade classes in the county.
