Surprise snowfall!

Van Wert County received a blanket of snow on Tuesday from a storm that apparently formed under the radar — literally — of the National Weather Service. Forecasters had been calling for light snow on Wednesday, but had not predicted any snow on Tuesday, although County Emergency Management Director Rick McCoy had posted on his Facebook page his prediction that the rain Tuesday would change over to snow. McCoy said the county received 2.57 inches of rain and 2.25 inches of snow from storms that began Sunday. The children making a snowman (above) don’t seem to mind the unexpected snowfall, though, while the scene at right taken by Johnny Murphy on his iPhone 4S in Hiestand Woods shows some of the snow that fell on the area on Tuesday.
