Rivals United adds to 2018-2019 totals

VW independent/submitted information

The final count has been totaled from the third year of the Rivals United event held last week.

The challenge this year was that school was canceled and delayed all week, which did not allow kids to do all of the events they had worked hard to plan. In addition, students were not able to turn in their money until the following in week.

The Rivals United team of administration, advisors, and United Way board reps determined the best situation was to move forward with the totals being announced at the boys’ basketball game on Friday night due to the many events that led up to the game and announcement. The great news is that Rivals United was eventually able to add another $6,020.28, bringing the overall total raised to $38,047.68.

“When we first met we said that 2018 was a great event and that we didn’t want to put any pressure on the kids to have to raise as much money this year,” said United Way Executive Director Vicki Smith. “We just wanted them to work together to raise money for our local charities. They did more than what we ever anticipated.”
