Club taking Decatur sculpture photo tour

Does a 500-pound rhinoceros sculpture made of Harley parts spark your interest?  It will be one of the 27 new sculptures and 11 permanent sculptures in Decatur, Indiana, that the Van Wert Area Photography Club plans to photograph on Saturday, June 30.

Although the sculpture tour is open now, tour officials suggested the 30th because they felt there was a better chance to compose the shot with fewer people to block your view or be in the background.

The plan is to meet at 10 a.m. on Court Street, which is on the left as you face the front of the Courthouse. From there you may either fan out on your own or follow a tour guide till returning at 11:30 a.m. to the starting point.  At that time a suggestion will be made for where to eat lunch together and the afternoon schedule.

If there is a 30 percent or less chance of rain, or a higher percent is forecast to start later in the day, the plan is to risk the weather and continue with the shoot. If the percentage is greater than 30 percent or the timing of the showers are more threatening, the shoot will be canceled and rescheduled for Saturday, July 7.  Check the Van Wert Area Photography Club’s Facebook page to confirm if the shoot is on or postponed.

The shoot is open to any area photographer. Everyone must contact Cheryl Knost by noon on Saturday, June 23, by phone at 419.773.8090 or email trunkantusks54@gmail.com, with the number in your party so she can contact officials for the tour and make a lunch reservation. Call 419.238.4545 by the 20th if you’d like to hitch a ride from Van Wert to the shoot or get confirmation whether it’s on or postponed.

Mark your calendars now and watch for reminders in the Times-Bulletin on Wednesdays, The Van Wert independent (Community & Columns) and the VWAPC’s Facebook page.
