VW gas prices up, except at Murphy USA

VW independent/submitted information

Local gasoline prices include one lower than average price, while the remainder of Van Wert service stations are more than 20 cents higher.

Murphy USA service station is currently selling gasoline for $2.17 a gallon, while every other service station in the city is at $2.39 per gallon. The possibility remains that Murphy USA has not yet increased its gasoline price, since that price is the same as the one recorded last week. But for city residents, the station has far and away the lowest price in town this morning.

Average retail gasoline prices in Ohio have risen 4.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.41 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 5,345 gas outlets in Ohio. This compares with the national average, which has fallen 1 cent per gallon in the last week to $2.51 per gallon, according to gasoline price website

Including the change in gas prices in Ohio during the past week, prices Sunday were 28.4 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 5.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has decreased 5 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 22 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

“Oil prices remain volatile yet several dollars off recent highs. Gasoline prices remain in somewhat of a limbo as a result, with a mixed bag at pumps across the United States,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “Thus far, we have seen a market that’s lacked solid upward movement when it usually sees exactly that.

“This could lend weight to oil prices being too high, but, at the same time, we continue to see if any major disruptions occur at U.S. refineries to offset any devaluation in the price of oil,” DeHaan added. “So far the balance is in the middle, but threats remain in the months ahead — we’re still expecting a surge, so motorists aren’t off the hook by any means yet.”
