Division IV regionals: BGSU breakdown

BOWLING GREEN — The field is set for this week’s Division IV regionals at the Stroh Center at Bowling Green State University.

Pandora Gilboa and Mohawk will meet in the regional semifinals at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday night, followed by Crestview and Maumee Valley Country Day in the nightcap. The winners of those games will meet at 7 p.m. Friday night for the regional championship and the right to advance to next week’s OHSAA Boys Basketball State Tournament in Columbus.

Here is a brief breakdown of the four teams participating in the BGSU regional:

Pandora-Gilboa Rockets (24-1, No. 13 in final A.P. poll)

Head coach: Joe Braidic

2017-18 season: Blanchard Valley Conference champions, No. 1 seed, Van Buren sectional champions, Liberty Benton district champions.

Tournament wins: 61-30 over Holgate (Van Buren sectional championship game); 49-45 over Miller City and 56-33 over Kalida (Liberty Benton district semifinal and championship games).

Season averages: score 57 points per game, allow 37 points per game.

Sycamore Mohawk Warriors (19-6)

Head coach: Paul Dunn

2017-2018 season: 3rd place Northern 10 Conference, No. 3 seed, Carey sectional champions, Fostoria district champions.

Tournament wins: 45-41 over Tiffin Calvert (Carey sectional championship game); 62-51 over New Reigel, 62-60 over No. 1 seed Arlington (Fostoria district semifinal and championship games).

Season averages: score 54 points per game, allow 50 points per game.

Crestview Knights (22-3)

Head coach: Jeremy Best

2017-2018 season: Northwest Conference champions, No. 1 seed, Van Wert sectional champions, Elida district champions.

Tournament wins: 55-48 over Parkway (Van Wert sectional championship game); 72-67 double overtime over Ottoville, 43-42 over Hicksville (district semifinal and championship games).

Season averages: score 64 points per game, allow 45 points per game.

Maumee Valley Country Day Hawks (20-5)

Head coach: Ron Conover

2017-2018 season: 3rd place Toledo Area Athletic Conference, No. 2 seed, Wauseon sectional champions, Napoleon district champions.

Tournament wins: 58-45 over Emmanuel Christian School (Wauseon sectional championship game); 56-47 over Ottawa Hills, 64-47 over Toledo Christian (district semifinal and championship games).

Season averages: score 68 points per game, allow 54 points per game.
