VW wrestlers compete at state tourney

COLUMBUS — Van Wert High School wrestler Isaiah Bretz saw his season come to an end, but teammate Gabe Steyer advanced to today’s action in the 2018 OHSAA Wrestling State Tournament at the Jerome Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University.

Bretz lost 12-10 to Maxx Peters in Thursday’s Division II preliminaries, then ended his season in the consolation round. Bretz finished the season 41-8.

Steyer (38-4) defeated Casey Ragle of Norwood 4-2 in the prelimaries, and will begin today’s competition by wrestling against Jordan Decatur (42-2) of Cuyahoga Falls CVCA in the quarterfinals.
