Crestview spends its Rivals United money

VW independent/submitted information

The United Way Board, in an effort to thank the Rivals United schools of Lincolnview and Crestview, wanted to allow the students who led in the success of this year’s contest determine what organizations would benefit from some extra donations. Lincolnview and Crestview each received $1,000 to “give back” to the organizations of their choice.

Crestview is allocating its $1,000 between Convoy Sports Center ($300), Wren Ballpark ($300), and Crestview’s new KEY Club ($400).

The Convoy Sports Center is a volunteer board of parents that oversees the summer softball and baseball activities of children ages 5-15 years old. The organization is grateful for the donation and thanked the Crestview student body. The money will be used to buy new batting helmets this summer at the ballpark.

The Wren Ballpark board thanked Crestview for the donation from Rivals United. Without donations like this, it is difficult to continue improving the park property and equipment. The ballpark board noted that the park has been making huge strides each year. This year’s improvement will be turning the park pavilion into a new concession stand. This worthwhile donation to Wren Ballpark helps to make the ballpark a better place for the kids!

The KEY Club is new to the school this year, as Chelsea Taylor explains.

“The KEY Club has been set up to create ‘positivity’ within the school,” she noted. “Some of the projects set up with the KEY Club include ‘Mix it Up Day’, which is sit at a different table at lunch so you can meet new friends.”

The Rivals United donation will help to buy decorations, prizes, candy, and Post It notes for the next “Take What You Need Wall”.

Crestview officials noted that it was very gracious of the United Way to allow the schools to have a say in how the money will be used.

The Rivals United fundraiser raised a total of $32,840.19 for United Way.
