Roberta Bernice (Harden) Matthews, 77, of Ohio City, passed away at 9:40 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born January 25, 1941, in Van Wert, the daughter of Robert D. and Beulah (Dias) Harden, who both preceded her in death. On June 3, 1960, she married Jan C. Matthews, who died February 2, 2006.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey C. (Lisa) Matthews and Robert Todd (Brenda) Matthews, both of Ohio City; two sisters, Patricia A. Ford of Van Wert and Margaret “Peg” (Andy) Candor of Fort Wayne, Indiana; a brother, Thomas (Nan Cowan) Harden of La Jolla, California; five grandchildren, Ashley Matthews (Matt Hurless), Abby Matthews, Danielle Matthews, Tyler Matthews, and Tanner Matthews; a great-granddaughter, Margo Matthews Hurless; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother-in-law, Clide Ford, also preceded her in death.

She was a 1959 graduate of Van Wert High School. She had worked on the family farm driving tractors. She also worked for Gary Malott District Sales for Gutwein Seeds and retired from Kill Brothers (Unverferth Manufacturing) in Delphos. Roberta was an Ohio State Buckeye fan, an avid reader and loved her dogs, as well as spoiling her grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert, with Pastor Randy Bevington of Ohio City Community Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the funeral home.
