Ohio A-G issues concealed carry report

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine issued a report recently indicating that 131,345 concealed carry licenses were issued in Ohio in 2017.

According to statistics reported to the Attorney General’s Office, Ohio county sheriffs issued 77,281 new licenses and 54,064 renewals in 2017. Permit holders who want to renew their licenses must do so every five years.

The Attorney General’s Office compiles an annual report as required by law about the number of licenses issued each year. Each sheriff must report concealed handgun license statistics quarterly to the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission within the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. Ohio county sheriffs began issuing concealed carry licenses in 2004.

Statistics in Van Wert and neighboring counties is as follows:

  • Van Wert County — 199 licenses issued, 163 licenses renewed, 5 licenses suspended, 0 licenses revoked or denied.

  • Allen County — 604 licenses issued, 477 licenses renewed, 25 licenses suspended, 2 licenses revoked, and 3 licenses denied.
  • Auglaize County — 380 licenses issued, 259 licenses renewed, 13 licenses suspended, 0 licenses revoked, and 2 licenses denied.
  • Mercer County — 402 licenses issued, 336 licenses renewed, 7 licenses suspended, 2 licenses revoked, and 7 licenses denied.
  • Paulding County — 171 licenses issued, 94 licenses renewed, 6 licenses suspended, 6 licenses revoked, and 2 licenses denied.
  • Putnam County — 167 licenses issued, 103 licenses renewed, 1 license suspended, 1 license revoked, 2 licenses denied, and 3 license processes suspended.
