William Bowen Evans

William Bowen Evans, 80, of Van Wert, died at 6:40 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born November 2, 1937, in Chase, Michigan, the son of James J. and Nellie (Mohr) Evans, who both preceded him in death. He married Nancy J. (Tribolet) Evans, and she survives in Van Wert.

Bill was a lifetime farmer and retired from Aeroquip Corporation in Van Wert. He had also worked at Lee’s Ace Hardware in Van Wert. Bill enjoyed being a member of Elks Lodge 1197 in Van Wert and Van Wert County Farm Focus.

Survivors also include three children, William B. (Jackie) Evans II of Van Wert, Jay (Dawn) Evans of Kannapolis, North Carolina, and Deb (Shawn) Rice of Decatur, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Menze, Jill Fromader, Jackie Rice, Gavin Evans, Trey Evans, Nick Evans and Corri Atencio; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bertha Now of Massillon and Joann (Bob) Wilkins of New Knoxville.

A daughter, Lori A. Evans; two brothers, John and James Evans; and two sisters, Nell Coolman and Sabina Lodge, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert.  Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert at a later date.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials may be directed to Middle Point Ballpark Association or the Van Wert County Fair.
