Two Van Wert County wrestlers have qualified for district competitions, while four others will serve as district alternates.
Division II at Napoleon
Van Wert’s Isaiah Bretz won his 100th career match and a Division II sectional championship in the 138 pound weight class with a 10-7 victory over Wauseon’s Mauricio Barajas on Saturday.
Before winning the sectional championship to advance to the district tournament, Bretz pinned Celina’s Aric Gallimore in 53 seconds, then defeated Napoleon’s Chris Krass via a technical fall (21-6).
Gabe Steyer (132 pounds) finished as sectional runner-up and qualified for the district tournament. Steyer lost to Wauseon’s Hunter Yackee 5-2 in the championship match.
Finishing in sixth place for the Cougars were: Josh Dorsch (120), Ryan Pratt (152) and Trevor Spridgeon (182). Finishing in fifth place and becoming district alternates were Malachi Battle (160) and Lloyd Eutsler (195).
District wrestling will take place at Norwalk High School Friday and Saturday.
Division III at Lima Central Catholic
Lincolnview’s Luke Bullinger and David Parsons will serve as district alternates, after each placed fifth at Saturday’s Division III sectionals at Lima Central Catholic.
Bullinger (113 pounds) captured fifth with a 6-5 victory over Caleb Langhals of Columbus Grove, while Parsons (285 pounds) took fifth place by pinning Adam Bailey of Ada in 4:03.
Also competing for the Lancers were Brok Bill (170 pounds) and Louis Ulery (182 pounds
