MINSTER — The Van Wert Lady Cougars bowled well at the Division II sectional tournament at Community Lanes in Minster on Saturday but as a team came up 36 pins short of moving on to district competition. However, a pair of Van Wert bowlers qualified for district, as did one from Lincolnview.

The Lady Cougars put up their season high game in the second traditional game with a 839 and were positioned in third out of 10 teams. In the third game the lanes started to transition and the girls fell to fourth with New Bremen and Bath less then 19 pins behind. The baker games started well and ended well but the middle four games got the best of the team.

While the entire team didn’t move on, two girls – freshman Lorrie Decker and senior Cloey Spry – qualified for districts this Thursday at Interstate Lanes in Rossford.

Decker led the field of 61 bowlers with an individual score of 617 and Spry had the 10th best score with a 482 series.

Allison Hauter bowled two solid games of 153 and 163 to place 23rd. Other players contributing to overall score were Allie Morrow, Katie Hauter, Hanna Say and Seniors Kaylee McPhail and Ashley Matthews.

Meanwhile, Shiann Kraft became the first bowler in Lincolnview High School history to qualify for district competition. Kraft rolled a 155-179-190 for a 524 series which gave her the second high individual set (of the bowlers not advancing on a qualifying team) and the seventh high overall set. She

She’ll join Decker and Spry in Rossford on Thursday.
