Van Wert Lady Cougar bowlers finish strong

Van Wert’s girls’ bowling regular season came to an end on Monday night with a 2183-2077 senior night victory over Lincolnview at Olympic Lanes.

Top scores came from Cloey Spry (140), Ashley Matthews (147), Kaylee McPhail (178) and Lorrie Decker (188 and 220). The Lady Cougars also received support from Allison Hauter, Hanna Say and Katie Hauter.

Lincolnview was led by Alicia Rist (152, 205 – 357) and Shiann Kraft 162, 170 – 332), followed by Maria Sarver (160, 100 – 260), Miah Katalenas (110, 95 – 205), Kenzie Sealscott (98) and Lea Unger (96).

Van Wert won four straight to close the regular season 9-8. The Lady Cougars will compete in the Western Buckeye League tournament in Kenton this Thursday at 9:45 a.m.

The junior varsity girls came away with a 1728-1631 victory over Lincolnview to finish the season 7-5.

Top scores came from Rylee Phillips (159), Allie Morrow (168) and Makenzie Bowers (171). Also contributing were Paige Smith, Kayla Papke and Kassey Miller.

Van Wert Lady defeated Fort Recovery 2142-2005 on Saturday, while the junior varsity topped Russia 1939-1825.

The Cougars took a small lead of 18 pins after the first game, but after the first five frames of the second game Ft. Recovery jumped ahead by 30 pins. The last five frames saw the Cougars make big shots after big shots putting together strings of strikes, converting multiple splits when needed and opening up a commanding lead 1449 to 1301 going into the baker games. The two teams bowled even through the baker games to give the Cougars take the win.

Top scores on the day were Cloey Spry (173), Allie Morrow (183) and Lorrie Decker (174 and 198). Allison Hauter, Hanna Say and Kaylee McPhail all made crucial shots during the match.

Van Wert’s junior varsity team came up big in the baker matches to overtake Russia, with four out of five baker games over 146. Top scores came from Rylee Phillips (149 and 138) and Ashley Matthews (132 and 140). They received help from Katie Hauter, Makenzie Bowers and Kassey Miller.
