Gregory headed to State Elks Hoops Shoot

Young Van Wert area hoopsters had a great showing at the Elks District Hoop Shoot Competition held in Findlay on Sunday.

In the girls’ 12-13-year-old division, Cali Gregory was the champion, hitting 23 of 25 free throws to qualify for the State Elks Hoop Shoot competition in Gahanna on February 17.

In the boys’ 12-13 year-old division Carter Hohman finished as runner-up by winning a shootout for second place.

The boys 10-11 year-old division featured the most dramatic and exciting finish of the day. Griffin McCracken of Van Wert tied Delphos St. John’s Cameron Elwer at the end of regulation by hitting 22 of 25 free throws. The boys then went into a five shot playoff and tied six consecutive times.

In the seventh round Elwer bested McCracken by one shot.
