Van Wert independent sports

CONVOY — For the second time this week, Crestview’s defense held an opponent to under 25 points.

Crestview defeated Fort Jennings 59-24 on Tuesday, then topped Allen East 52-23 on Thursday.

On the strength of a free throw and basket by Lyvia Black and buckets by Ally McCoy and Paige Motycka, the Lady Knights jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead, before the Mustangs (2-4, 1-2 Northwest Conference) scored twice before the end of the opening quarter.

Crestview (4-3, 2-1 NWC) opened the second quarter on a 14-0 run, including three-pointers by Lexi Gregory and Black, a pair of baskets by Motycka and a bucket by Bailey Gregory. Allen East closed the period on a 6-0 run, but still trailed 21-10 at halftime.

The Lady Knights pulled away for good in the third quarter, using triples by Gregory and Motycka and a conventional basket by Haley Speith to lead 36-16.

Motycka scored eight of her game-high 17 points in the fourth quarter, while Lexi Gregory (12) and Black (11) also finished in double figures.

Crestview will play at Kalida on Saturday.
