Twig III holds May meeting at hospital

Submitted information

Twig III held its monthly meeting May 9 at Van Wert County Hospital. Speaker Debby Compton, director of physical rehabilitation, spoke to the group about a new program that opened its doors at the hospital in July: the Occupational Health Clinic, which will provide local employers with pre-screening physicals, drug screens, safety exams, and work injury care, in addition to other services.

The purpose of the clinic is to keep injury treatment at home instead of sending it out of the county. The clinic will be an important service to local businesses for pre-employment testing and injuries on the job, and will save much time and expense for local employers. The clinic is supervised by Jocelyn Wray, M.D., of Physical Medicine.

Twig III Chair Lisa Dunn opened the business meeting with 15 members in attendance. An invitation was read inviting all volunteers to a gathering on Wednesday, May 17, at which time Jim Pope, president and CEO of the hospital, will address all volunteers concerning the hospital’s strategic plan, and how the hospital will achieve goals related to quality, patient safety, and service excellence. The gathering will take place in Conference Room A of the hospital at 3 p.m.

The Gift Shop Committee reported several markdowns, good sales, and volunteers were asked that, if they cannot work their scheduled time, to please make up the time on another day. The hottest item on the shelf is the latest fad called a “fidget spinner”, which is sweeping the nation. The spinner was originally designed to increase focus and control fidgeting.

Many new Ohio State and University of Michigan items, as well garden flags, are selling in the shop. The Hospital Gift Shop is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

A report was given on the April 25 Volunteer Lunch for all hospital volunteers that was hosted by the hospital. The April “All Twig Board” report was also given. Dues of $10 and Cheer Fund dues of $3 are now past due.

Hostesses for the evening were Sharon Bowersock and Deb Miller. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, June 13, at Van Wert County Hospital. For more information about becoming a member of any of the three Twig groups, call Jeanne Zeigler.
