Ky. man faces charges for county crash

Van Wert independent news

A Kentucky resident faces a felony charge related to an injury accident that occurred back in February at a Van Wert County intersection.

James Freeman, 67, of Williamsburg, Kentucky, was charged with aggravated vehicular assault in connection with an accident that took place at the intersection of Liberty Union and Van Wert-Willshire roads on February 18. The charges stem from the fact that Freeman had no valid driver’s license or vehicle insurance at the time of the accident.

osplogoAccording to sources, Freeman was arrested Monday in Whitley County, Kentucky.

According to investigating troopers from the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Freeman was driving a 2012 Nissan Titan pickup truck and trailer south on Liberty Union Road at approximately 3:52 p.m. that day and failed to yield the right-of-way at the stop sign with Van Wert-Willshire Road, and struck the left front end of a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven east on Van Wert-Willshire by Christopher N. Wilson, 32, of Ohio City.

Freeman suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Van Wert County Hospital by the Ohio City EMS squad. A passenger in his pickup truck, Jason D. Brown, 30, also of Williamsburg, was transported by Samaritan Life-Flight medical transport helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, while Wilson was first taken to the local hospital, but later life-flighted to Parkview by Samaritan helicopter.

Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. Wilson was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, while Freeman and Brown were not.
