Badlands and Brownies exhibit closes Friday

The 39th Annual Photography Exhibit entry deadline is Sept. 14; contact the Wassenberg Art Center now for an entry form. Entry is open to all ages and all skill levels. This is a juried exhibit; entry does not guarantee display.

The exhibit will open Oct. 2 with a reception from 1-5 p.m. featuring refreshments, live music by Orlando Finelli on guitar, and a cash bar. For more information please see our website or give us a call. This exhibit will be on display until Oct, 23.

The Badlands and Brownies Exhibit ends this Friday, Sept. 16. Don’t miss the fine work of photographers Stephen Takacs of Columbus (who takes pictures using a giant Brownie Camera) and Mark Lanning Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.

We have a selection of art classes; contact the art center to register.

Watercolor Techniques, a class for adults taught by Pat Rayman, is held Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. This continuing class is $35 a month for members, $40 for non-members. Watercolor materials are required.

An Evening Pottery Class will be held on Sept. 14, 21, 28, Oct. 5, and 12, starting at 6 p.m. each evening. Instructor Maria Coward, who specializes in ceramics and printmaking, will help you with current projects or instruct you in techniques, including wheel throwing. The fee is $70 for members, $75 for non-members. Some materials are required.

The ArtReach After School Art Program is held on Tuesdays for ages 7-11 and Thursdays for ages 12-16. Students will be provided a snack and then they’ll get down to creating. Parents may drop off students after school and pick them up at 5 p.m. The instructor is Diane Bendele, who holds degrees in art education and education. She has been an art instructor for 35 years, working with students of all ages both in the classroom and online. The monthly fee for ArtReach is $40 for members, $45 for non-members during the regular school year. Most supplies will be provided. Holidays and cancellations will follow the Van Wert City School schedule.

On Thursdays, from 6-9 p.m., we offer a free ArtNight. Bring a current project, or try out something using materials available in the art center classroom.
