M. Marcile Matthews

M. Marcile Matthews, 86, of Ohio City, passed away at 5:49 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

She was born March 5, 1930, in Van Wert County, the daughter of Elven T. and Edna Belle (Uhrick) Slane, who both preceded her in death. On August 27, 1947, she married Frederick Charles Matthews, who died August 15, 1991.

Marcile retired from Teleflex Corporation in Van Wert. She was a 1947 graduate of Van Wert High School and a member of Ohio City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four children, Gale D. “Rudy” (Ruth) Matthews of Ohio City, E. Wayne (Deb) Matthews of Ohio city, Joyce Ann (Walter) Theisen of New Bavaria, and Ava K. (Gregg) Scheidt of Ohio City; a brother, Gerald A. Slane of rural Van Wert County; one sister, Helen (Jerry A.) Rolsten of Mendon; six grandchildren, Tim Matthews, Jamie Friedrich, Lorie Garwood, Tammy Theisen, Alysha Scheidt, and Jordan Scheidt; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, July 25, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home in Van Wert. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ohio City.

Visitation is from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 24, and an hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
