Clean & Green event set for downtown VW

The 2016 Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class invites the Van Wert community to participate in a service project to benefit Main Street Van Wert.

The Clean and Green event is an opportunity for community members to help in the cleaning and beautification of downtown Van Wert. Projects include sweeping the sidewalks and alleyways, cleaning vacant store front windows, planting planters, touching up the streetlight post paint, and other projects to prepare downtown for summer.

The event will be held this Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is broken into two shifts, one from 9-11 a.m. and the second from 11 a.m.-1 pm. Those volunteering will meet in front of the Van Wert County Courthouse at the beginning of each shift to break into groups responsible for various tasks in various sections of downtown.

This is a “bring your own broom” event, while trash bags and other cleaning materials will be provided. Organizers of the event will also be providing water and snacks.

The rain date for this event is Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
