Leadership Class to have raffle for flags

The 2016 Van Wert Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Class has selected Main Street Van Wert to benefit from its fundraising efforts.

The Leadership Class will be selling raffle tickets to community members and interested businesses until Thursday, April 21. Proceeds will go to Main Street Van Wert to aid in the purchasing of new American flags and flagpoles.

Over the past several years, American flags on Main Street had to be continually refurbished due to tangling throughout the summer season, which was done by workers from the city’s Engineering Department. In the latter part of summer 2015, a demo flag was installed, and, for the approximately six weeks that the demo flag was up, it never tangled nor had any other problems.

The Leadership Class selected the project because it views downtown Van Wert as a critical area for business development and community pride. The new American flags and flagpoles will line Washington and Main streets, while, if possible, the Main Street Van Wert Board of Directors would also like to purchase flags and flagpoles for Central Avenue.

The raffle tickets cost $10 each. Main Street Van Wert Program Manager Adam Ries will draw three winners on Friday, April 22: The first-place winner will receive $1,000, while second place will receive $400, and third place will receive $100.
