Rosemary Schroeder died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

She was born February 19, 1924, in Millhousen, Indiana, the daughter of Bernard and Clara (Hardebeck) Blankman, who both preceded her in death. On June 19, 1951, she married William C. “Bill” Schroeder, who died November 15, 2007.

Rosemary was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, and a member of the Altar Rosary Society, a lector for years, and a volunteer choir member for funeral masses.

Rosemary taught high school for 35 years, beginning at Willshire High School and the last 28 years at Lincolnview High School. After retiring in 1991, she subbed for 14 years in Van Wert County schools.

Rosemary attended Ball State University and helped with the World War II effort in LaPorte, Indiana, as a secretary. She later returned to Ball State and graduated in 1947.

She is survived by three children, Marybeth (Victor) Siemens of Fort Wayne, Indiana, James (Sylvia) Schroeder of Bloomington, Indiana, and Kathleen (Glenn) Smith of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Waechter; and one brother, James Blankman. She is also survived by her caregiver, Kendra German, and her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in Concordia Gardens Memorial Park in Fort Wayne.

Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, followed by a Rosary service that evening.

Preferred memorials: St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its school.
