The circus wagons are circling! The dust is flying, the paint is splattering. Staff and volunteers have been working late into the midnight hours to bring you a fantastic experience at the greatest show unearthed, Dr. Wassenstein Freak Show this October 31! Electro-swing DJ C.R. Vourteque is playing his pilgrimage from Chicago to get your feet dancing! Performers will be risking life and limb in death (almost) defying feats. Creepy clowns, a circus “poodle”, popcorn, peanuts and liquid refreshments a costume contest and other surprises will guarantee your Halloween a perfect success. Tickets are still available and should be available at the door. Membership, while appreciated is never required, public always welcome. More information can be found at: http://www.wassenbergartcenter.org/announcements/dr-wassensteins-freak-show or call the art center at: 419.238.6837. This event is powered by: First Federal Savings & Loan, Iberdrola Renewables, Open Minded, Van Wert Manor and the Van Wert County Foundation.

So, what exactly is a Freak Show? Our version is a humorous and slightly scary take on the traveling circus and side shows popular in the earlier half of the 1900s. It is well thought out from the music to the entertainment down to the color scheme and decor. It is not a haunted attraction. We look for interesting entertainment and and explore what is popular and potentially seeing a revival in trends. We do like to have fun and it is Halloween so these are times we stretch our wings a bit (and our limits) to bring the community a party that is new, different and cutting edge.

Calls for entry have gone out for our Annual Artist Members’ Exhibit and  Sale. Get your ideas ruminating! Check-in days are Nov. 14 and 15. Please call the art center or visit our website for a copy of the prospectus and official rules. This is a fun, all media exhibit, which is judged for awards. All works are accepted in this show and just in time for the holiday shopping season!

The 38th annual Wassenberg Photography Exhibit continues through November 8, be sure to stop by and check out the stunning images from both local and regional photographers.
