Entry day at the fair photo exhibit

Nine Van Wert Area Photography Club members were on hand Sunday, Aug. 30, from 1 p.m. to after 5 p.m. assisting entrants, registering their photos, and hanging the pictures for the County Fair’s Photography Exhibit.  A study of the registration sheets revealed that 54 photographers turned in 311 pictures this year compared to 58 people who submitted 220 photos last year.

The good news is that, possibly for the first time, no one entered a picture in a frame having an opening larger than 8×10 inches. On the other hand, not having the proper wire attached for hanging and the entry tag attached to the wire continued to be problems for several of the entrants.

The registration process was a little more demanding this time due to photographers being able to submit two pictures in each of the 5 classes in both color and black/white for a total of 20 pictures.  The classes for this year are: At the Fair, Transportation, People, On the Farm and the 5th class could be either a City Scape, Land- or Seascape. Having the entries listed at the bottom of one page and continued at the top of the next page, which couldn’t be helped, at times also slowed the process.

Anyone wishing to purchase a picture should leave their contact information with the number on the front of the frame at the photography desk. A host will contact the photographer about the potential sale and relay the buyer’s contact information. It will be up to the photographer to contact the buyer.

There are many really impressive images this year, so be sure not to miss the display.

The club’s next regularly scheduled meeting is on the second Thursday.  This month that would be Sept. 10, 7 p.m. at 114 S. Race St.
