NWCC nursing program gets high marks

NW State Community College information

ARCHBOLD — Northwest State Community College was recently named in the top 4 percent of all nursing programs throughout the nation. As a leader in passing rates on the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses, the program was ranked second based on the performance of all nursing programs in Ohio and 83rd in the nation, based on the performance of 2,053 associate degree nursing programs. The practical nursing program also performed well, ranking seventh in the state.

“The nursing program has proven to be successful year in and year out,” said Lori Bird, dean of nursing at Northwest State. “Passage rates are routinely well above state and national averages and health care employers seek out our students for their facilities.”

Employers have taken note as well. Northwest State students are sought after by many health care providers, and, while most NSCC students choose to stay in northwest Ohio, students are also finding opportunities throughout the state and beyond.

“Our goal is to provide an education that leads to career opportunities; in the continually changing health care industry it is important that we work closely with healthcare facilities to ensure our students are meeting their needs,” said Bird. “The NSCC nursing faculty is committed to educating students to not only learn the skills needed for testing, but also the equally important skill of providing compassionate and excellent care for the patients they will serve.

“The nursing program at NSCC also allows a seamless pathway to a bachelor’s degree as all the courses transfer to other educational institutions easily,” she added.

Northwest State will be holding an open house this Thursday, July 23, from 3 to 6 p.m. Faculty will be available to share information about all programs and nursing tours and demonstrations will be featured.
