Shirley A. Saam, 78, of Van Wert, died at 3:46 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She was born September 3, 1936, in Mercer County, the daughter of Vilas and Wanda (Bader) Deitsch, who both preceded her in death. She married Dale E. Saam, who survives in Van Wert.

Mrs. Saam was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Ohio City.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three children, Eugenia (Mark) Bishop of Lima and Rodney (Susan) Saam and Colleen (John) Wiley, both of Van Wert; two brothers, Gary (Elaine) Dietsch and Gerald (Jeannie) Deitsch, both of Rockford; a sister, Nancy Cummins of Celina; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Tyler Bishop, Kayla Colleen Bishop and Tyler James Wiley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at St. Paul’s Reformed Church in Ohio City, with the Rev. Chad Strabbing officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert, and an hour prior to services Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials: St. Paul’s Reformed Church.
