Louis J. Lianez, 90, of Van Wert, died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at the Van Wert Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born September 12, 1924, in Paulding, the son of Genorro and Vincinta Lianez, who both preceded him in death. On January 19, 1942, he married Antonia (Vargas) Lianez, who died October 9, 2001.

American Flag for obituaries 6-2011Survivors include five children, Emanuel J. Lianez of Harisonburg, Virginia, David M. (Jane) Lianez of Van Wert, Judy A. Eiting of Fort Wayne, Indiana, John Lianez of Van Wert and Thomas C. (Beth) Lianez of Zanesville; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A grandson and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Mr. Lianez had been a longtime employee of the former Continental Can Company in Van Wert, from which he retired. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert and Knights of Columbus Council 6034. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Massachusetts. He was a member of the Van Wert Police Department Reserve, American Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both of Van Wert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Stan Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, with graveside military honors performed by a combined unit from Legion Post 178 and VFW Post 5803.

Calling hours are from 2-6 p.m. Friday, February 20, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with recitation of the Rosary at 6 that evening.

Preferred memorials: St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
