Melvin J. ‘Bun’ Pohlman

Melvin J. “Bun” Pohlman, 85, of Delphos, passed away at 3 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

He was born September 30, 1929, in Delphos, to Alphons and Adeline (Wellman) Pohlman, who both are deceased. On October 28, 1950, he was united in marriage with Rita Mae (Hohlbein) Pohlman, who survives in Delphos.

Other survivors include a daughter, Mary Kay (Don) Klausing of Delphos; two sons, Keith (Mary Lou) Pohlman of Delphos and Tim (Susan) Pohlman of Scottsdale, Arizona; two sisters, Mary Catherine “Sally” Looser of Ottoville and Rita (Norbert “Piney”) Suever of Landeck; one brother, Ronald (Joan) Pohlman of Ottawa; a sister-in-law, Pat (Mel) Pohlman Williams of Lima; seven grandchildren, Dustin, Heather and Julia Pohlman, Katie and Matthew Pohlman and Lauren (Mike) Chapman and Isaac Klausing.

Three sisters and brothers-in-law, Delores (Gene) Meyer, Lucille (Bob) Ellerbrock and Jane (John) Ricker; and a brother, Gilbert “Gip” Pohlman, also preceded him in death.

Melvin was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Delphos, the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Delphos Eagles. Melvin’s father passed away at the young age of 39, and, being 15, Melvin left grade school to help support his mother and six siblings. Melvin was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was self-employed, serving area dairy farmers for 22 years. In 1972, he joined the DeLaval Dairy Equipment Company, retiring in 1992 to enjoy his seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, December 19, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with Father Ron Schlock officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Delphos.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, December 18, at Harter and Schier Funeral Home in Delphos, where a parish wake will be held at 7:30 that evening.
