The 37th Annual Photography Exhibit will open on Oct. 4 at 7-9 p.m. with awards being presented at 8 p.m. Help us ring in this compelling exhibit which is taking place for the first time in our new space! As with all our exhibits and receptions there is no charge to attend and we even feed you. Live music will be provided by Jason Grieshop and That Lousy Band. A cash bar will be available.

The “Symphony of My Heart” exhibit will be ending on Sept. 28. If you have had a chance to view the postcards and found a favorite the time has come to think about cutting it down and taking it home. If you haven’t seen the exhibit, you don’t want to miss it. Art postcards by Iowa artist, Saffron Goetschius, amounted to a staggering 500 pieces and are now hanging from the Wendel Gallery trusses. Each card twists and moves with air movement and creates one of the most interactive exhibits we have hosted. People’s faces change from happy, laughter, shock and sadness and this exhibit runs the gamut of emotion. Mail art is typically collages of mixed media placed on a post card, with instructions to the post office to hand cancel. Each card is mailed as-is and was sent through the mail to my mailbox.

Watercolor Techniques class continues on Tuesday mornings starting at 10 a.m. This is an ongoing class is taught by Pat Rayman. Persons are encouraged to jump in anytime and the class is sold in monthly increments. $35 for members and $40 for non-members.

ArtReach will be returning to the Wassenberg Art Center in October! Stay tuned, details very soon!

Our next Vine & Palette is scheduled for Oct. 2 from 6:30–9 p.m. Call soon if you would like to join us for the evening. The evening includes all painting materials and wine and participants may bring a snack to share if they wish. We take care of the rest. Wear a paint shirt or apron to protect your clothes. $25 for members and $30 for non-members. Did you know you can schedule private and corporate Vine & Palette parties? We can also design the party for children.

Let’s Dance! To help you prepare for our first epic open-to-the-public Halloween party, we are offering dance lessons here at the art center to get you in the swing. In conjunction with newly-opening Bachwell Center for Music & Dance in downtown Van Wert, Sarah Hope Wells, will offer two evening classes here at the Wassenberg Art Center that feature East Coast swing, West Coast swing, the Jitterbug, the Shag and even the urban hippie/raver classic, the Shuffle. If you’ve got a partner, bring him or her, and if not, bring yourself! Dress comfortably, in shoes you can move in. Classes will be meeting Tuesday, Oct. 21 and again on Oct. 28 from 7-8 p.m. Cost is only $15 per person, per session.
