Knights down Lancers in NWC volleyball

CONVOY — Cross-county rivals Lincolnview and Crestview battled it out before a packed house at Ray Etzler Gymnasium on Thursday in Northwest Conference volleyball action, with the Lady Knights coming from behind to beat the Lady Lancers in four games.

Crestview is now 10-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northwest Conference, while Lincolnview is 4-6 overall and 1-3 in league play.

The Lancers started off well, winning the first game of the match by a score of 25-23, but Crestview toughened up after that and won the final three games by scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-15.

“It was definitely a great match to prepare us for what is to come down the road,” said Crestview Coach Tammy Gregory. “I felt we adjusted to the tournament-like atmosphere, found ways to better the ball defensively, and mixed it up more offensively.”

Leading the Knights were the following:

Serving – Tianna Rager, 22/24 with 5 aces; Brady Guest, 3 aces.

Hitting – Courtney Trigg, 20 kills; Megan Hartman, 9 kills; Guest, 5 kills; and Claire Zaleski, 4 kills.

Setting – Mackenzie Riggenbach, 14 assists; Guest, 15 assists.

Digs – Rager and Haley Helm, 12 digs each.

Leading the Lancers were the following:

Serving – Devann Springer, 16/17 with 3 aces; and Baylee Neate, 14/14 with 5 aces.

Hitting – Neate, 21/23, with 10 kills; Katie McClure, 8 kills; Ashton Bowersock and Ashley Teman, both with 5 kills.

Setting – Springer, 28 assists.

Blocks – Neate and Katlyn Wendel both had 2 block solo kills.

Digs – McClure, 13 digs; Alana Williams, 9 digs; Grace Gorman, 8 digs.

The Crestview junior varsity also won over the Lancer JVs in two games, 25-20 and 25-19.

The Knights will next play Van Wert at home on Monday, while the Lancers travel to Minster on Saturday for the Minster Invitational Tournament.
