Track teams begin seasons

This year Lincolnview Elementary participated in the 2014 Van Wert Festival of the Arts. Two to three artworks from every grade level were entered into the judged art show.  The Art Show consisted of students from Van Wert, Lincolnview, Crestview, and St. Mary’s.  Jaden Persinger placed third at the kindergarten level. The junior high track teams started their seasons on Saturday at the Parkway Invitational.  There were a total of 12 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams at the competition.  The boys brought back the runner up trophy, scoring 95.5 points as a team.  They were second to Wapakoneta by just 9 points and finished ahead of Van Wert by 16 points.  The girls were fourth as a team, scoring 43 points.

Placing for the Lancer teams included:

Maddie Gorman – 3rd in the 100 hurdles (20.11) and 4th in the 200 meter hurdles (37.35)

Braxten Robey – 7th in the 110 hurdles (21.94)

Tristin Miller – 6th in the 100 meter dash (14.53), 7th in the high jump (4’8”)

Rylee Byrne – 6th in the mile run (6:29.85)

Cal Wolfrum – 1st in the mile (5:11.21) and 1st in the 800 meter run (2:25.12)

Karter Tow – 2nd in the mile (5:24.59) and 2nd in the 800 meter run (2:29.86)

Alek Bowersock – 8th in the mile (5:41.88)

Brayden Langdon – 3rd in the 400 meter dash (1:10.72) and 6th in the 800 meter run (2:58.53)

Logan Williams – 2nd in the 200 meter hurdles (33.54), 4th in the high jump (4’8”)

The Lincolnview Junior High Scholastic Bowl team had a great experience traveling to the Wright State Lake Campus on Friday, April 11 for the annual Scholastic Bowl Tournament.  The students spent the day at the University competing against 16 area teams. The two Lincolnview teams came in 6th and 11th place. Members of the team are:  Sydni Thatcher, Riley Webb, Jacob Haeunstein, Adia Welch, Rylee Byrne, Carly Wendel, Raegan Boley, Lakin Brant, Alena Looser, Sterling Rigdon, Kylee Mongold, and Bethany Martinez. James Greathouse – 3rd in pole vault (6’)

Sterling Rigdon – Tied for 5th in pole vault (5’)

Sydni Thatcher – 6th in the discus (65’6.5”)

Kathy Tate – 7th in shot put (28’7.5”)

Relays placing were:

4×100 girls’ relay of Klausing, Snyder, Miller, and Katalenas placed 5th (1:00.94)

4×100 boys’ relay of Swallow, Robinson, Clay, and Williams placed 2nd (54.72)

4×200 girls’ relay of Katalenas, Schimmoeller, Sill, and Snyder placed 5th (2:14.4)

4×200 boy’s relay of Robinson, Miller, Clay, and Robey placed 3rd (1:58.03)

4×400 girls’ relay of Gorman, Klausing, Gorman, and Langdon placed 4th (5:01.87)

Becca Kessler was one of 12 winners of the Ohio State Fire Marshal Poster Contest. There was a surprise assembly held during school on Monday, April 14, where Middle Point Fire Chief Craig King presented Becca the award. Becca’s poster will be displayed at the Ohio State Fair this coming summer. Standing with Becca and Craig is Middle Point Fire Department Ken Meyer. (Photo submitted.)
