Cletus ‘Dale’ Stripe

Cletus “Dale” Stripe, 90, of Van Wert, died at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born October 3, 1923, in Van Wert, the son of the late Cletus and Norma (Gribler) Stripe. On June 14, 1947, he married Marie (Louagie) Stripe, who preceded him in death on December 3, 2009.

He is survived by his children, Theresa (Jim) Beard and Fran (Steve) White, both of Van Wert, Marcia (David) Wright of Sylvania, Dennis (Diane) Stripe of Mahwah, N.J., Father Keith Stripe of Maumee, and Katherine (Robert) Howard of Westerville; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

One brother, Bill Stripe; and two sisters, Harriet Pearson and Phyllis Ashbaugh, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Stripe was a carpenter and home builder. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Van Wert, the local Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 178 and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Keith Stripe officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, with graveside military honors performed by the combined units of Legion Post 178 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803, both of Van Wert.

Calling hours are from 2-8 p.m. Monday, April 21, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert, with a Parish Rosary will be recited at 8 that evening.

Preferred memorials: St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
