French classes celebrate Mardi Gras
The French 2 classes at Van Wert High School recently celebrated Mardi Gras with Mary Yackey’s first grade class at St. Mary’s Elementary School by sharing the books that they made about Mardi Gras celebrations in different French speaking countries.
The French classes were divided into groups and chose one French speaking country to research, including Martinique, Quebec, Haiti, as well as several others. Next, each group wrote a story and designed a children’s book. They were read their books in French to the first graders, and then translated the stories into English.
The French students finished their presentation by teaching the first graders how to count in French as well as conversational French words.
