The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center Governing Board reorganized during its January meeting, electing Ron Treece as board president and Jerry Zielke vice president.

Superintendent Brian Gerber also recognized board members for their service as part of “School Board Recognition Month”.

“This is an opportunity for us to take a moment and thank our school board members for the time and effort they put forward for the betterment of our schools,” Gerber noted, praising the WBESC board for its teamwork and policy setting and enforcement. “They work within the community, staff, and administration to make Western Buckeye ESC a productive and effective agency.”

Board members Treece, Zielke, Billy Poe III, P. James Grubaugh and Nick Miller received plaques honoring their service.

Also during the meeting, the superintendent noted that the board would again partner with The (Fort Wayne, Ind.) Journal-Gazette on its 60th annual spelling bee. The even offers local students the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which is held annually in Washington, D.C.

The Paulding County Spelling Bee will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, January 27, at Paulding Middle School, while the Van Wert Spelling Bee will start at 7 p.m. Monday, February 3, in the Marsh Foundation Auditorium.

During the meeting, the board voted to employ Brittany Cunningham as a paraprofessional at the Allen County ESC, effective January 6, while also granting six weeks of maternity leave to Ashley Shepherd.
