Van Wert independent/WSU-LC information

CELINA – Wright State University-Lake Campus will host its first regional summit on Friday, March 25, from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in James F. Dicke Hall.

Similar to a regional summit held in September 2010 on the Dayton Campus, the Lake Campus regional summit will provide a networking opportunity in which the region’s business, political, community and university leaders can discuss how higher education can partner with the community to create jobs for the region.

“The Impact of Higher Education on the Economic Development Process” will include an opening presentation by Wright State University President David Hopkins, as well as closing remarks by Ohio Director of Agriculture Jim Zehringer. The agenda promises to engage attendees in presentations and discussions on topics that are vital to west central Ohio’s economic growth, including:

  • “Engineering the Future of Local Manufacturing” – A brief on the Lake Campus’s and its Business Enterprise Center’s response to the need for trained workers in our industries
  • “Partners in Crime Prevention” – A review of the Grand Lake Law Enforcement Academy and their collaboration with local law enforcement officials
  • “Working Together to Save Our Lake” – A presentation regarding the status of the Grand Lake St. Marys restoration efforts
  • “Growing a Partnership in Agriculture Education” – An illustration of how community partners can work together to continue to develop and improve the largest economic driver in our area, agriculture.

Following those four short presentations of ongoing collaborative projects between the Lake Campus and partners in the region, attendees will have the opportunity to engage and participate in the idea-generating process, helping to contribute to the efforts to continually improve our region.

Area leaders are invited to join in this exciting opportunity to learn what they can do within their own sphere of influence to affect positive change in the region. Participants must register by Friday, March 11. Registration is free; however, seating is limited.

For more information and to register, go to http://www.wright.edu/lake/regionalsummit/ or call the Lake Campus at 419.586.0300.
